My battery was bought last month.. Alternator light comes on with the key on, but goes out at start up. Battery keeps running low and eventually won't start the car. Does this point to anything usual - VR maybe?

.. If there is any doubt in your mind about parasitic draw measure it. I'm getting .02 mA between the neg bat terminal and the neg bat cable clamp... so I think that rules out a parasitic draw if I understand correctly (.05mA being acceptable). I believe all my chassis grounds are all good - it's a fresh restoration. Think I'm gonna hook a ground to the alternator and see if that helps. Then pull the alternator I guess. BTW, at some recent point all this was working as it should.. after getting everything together and the car started for the first time after the restoration, I shot a picture of the dash while the car was idling and the voltmeter gauge was showing 13.5 or so, it's only been 11.5 or so since the charging issues started. So just out of the blue.. ps - wire repair did nothing |
