Can someone tell me what the correct part number / size is for the woodruff key used to secure the fan to a 914-6 Bosch 770W generator? The part is not identified in the catalog.

I had information suggesting it was N-012-710-1 4 x 6.5 mm for '65-77 911. I have tried to install the Porsche supplied part a few times and it is certainly too tall.

None of the alternates I find from the normal suppliers list this use for their woodruff key offerings. Trying to measure the opening in the shaft and the fan, my best guess is it wants 4 x 5.

Thank you.

The key is shown in PET. You have the correct part number.

The enshitification of global supply chains virtually ensures nothing fits properly anymore.

Woodruff keys rarely ever fit perfectly even back in the good ol’ days.

Modify it accordingly. The most important dimension(s) is the width and the radius of the semi-circular side that engages the shaft and that it fits snugly into the groove without side to side wobble.

Use a file for non-critical dimensions like height. Sandpaper and a flat surface for the critical dimensions to fine tune the fit.

Thanks for the confirmation on the part number. I should have specified that I've been looking at the PDF parts catalog. The woodruff key isn't even shown in the drawing.

Thanks for the levity on proper fitment.
