AFAIK our cars were finished with a synthol enamel, probably one tack coat and 2 full coats. I am not interested in going base coat/clear coat and am looking forward to an original or close to the original orange peel. How is this measured (profilometer), what was the original?

The issue become usage. No shops are using single stage on a regular basis. So therefore the paint companies quit making it. And what ever is left on a shop or jobbers mixing machine is probably no good , leaving you with maybe a bad match or a bad paint job.
Find the guy who is going to paint your car and ask him what fills your needs the mos. Kevin |
