Themostat Cable and how it attaches to flapper, Thermostat Cable Options

We have the motor out doing a refresh of all lines seals and sorting out some stuff..

Ordered a new thermostat and cable not sure how it attaches to the flapper in the fan may be we are missing some hardware..

Here's a bad pic, former owner had it rigged open with a zip tie..

Can anyone show me the proper connection and see what if any missing bolts I may need 73 1.7L

Looks like you're just missing #10, 11 and 12. The cable gets pinched between #12 and the metal lever you're pointing to in the pic. the system is designed so that if the theremostat fails, it reverts to the full cooling position. That spring next to your finger is what pulls on the cable, so when the car is cool or not yet fully warmed, the cable is under tension.

So...

When it's time to install the cable, get the car fully warm and pull the cable just enough so that the slack is relieved. Then tighten the bolt down. This way, when the car cools, the thermostat will pull on the cable and close the flaps. You can try installing the cable when the engine is cold, but I think it's harder to maintain tension on it while securing it down.
