I went to see this last Saturday and unfortunately most of these cars will not make it back on the road.
A property owner in Rochester, WA bought the property and the barns had about a hundred cars. Mostly 914s and tons ov VW's. The prior owner had collection of over 1000 cars spread across multiple properties and some cool cars were pulled out of the collection prior to the sale of this property. When the new owner contacted a local VW club to ask for help getting rid of all the cars, they organized a community sale event to get them to enthusiasts rather than scrapping them outright. I heard about it through 914 Rubber and made the trip up to see what was there. While some cars found new homes during the weekend event, including an LE, there are still many remaining that are now scheduled for the crusher. The seller allowed the organizers 1 more weeked to try and help rescue as much as possible. They are giving our community one final chance to pull parts before they're gone for good. I didn't bring anything home myself, but I could see there are still salvageable components that could help other members with their restorations: Exterior trim A few good dash tops Gauges Turn signal housings German glass Rear windows with defrost Interior components Most of the complete cars have significant rust issues, but complete donor cars are available for minimal cost. Location: 4714 183rd Ave SW, Rochester, WA 98579 When: This Saturday and Sunday What to bring: Cash, basic tools, trailer for complete cars If you're in Washington or Oregon and need parts for your project, this might be your last chance to rescue these components. Even if you take more than you need, anything you put in our classifieds later helps keep these parts in the community instead of the scrap yard. Time is running out on this one. having viewed the informative film clip i dont agree with @JeffBowlsby . a negative price tag should be attached to all willing to remove them from the premises. $300 for shell, $500 per shell and junked engine to each person with a flat bed ready to get em out and go. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) you may laugh as i do but i'm being serious.
hence the crusher? you pay to clear a property in australia not the other way around. last time i was informed it was $125 AUD to remove the car. no $ in owner pocket plagued by crumbling former status symbol - $ removed from owners pocket for the convenience. those cars were lost to the world before they even entered the former pig stye? |

Thats an interesting perspective and I don't necessarily disagree with our friend Michael, but it depends on the person and the specific vehicle characteristics. I have only parted two 914s in the last 25 years - where one saw junk and a waste of time, I saw opportunity. Both cars were given to me free, just haul them away, they were not viable as vehicles. One '73 had a 1.7L engine and suffered from an engine fire, the other a '75 with no engine or interior. Still, I cleared about $1500 on each from their parts, and that was over 20 years ago. More than worth my time and my kids helped me turn wrenches which taught them life lessons. Even these cars with their rotted out chassis, likely have some value, but not enough to pay someone else for the privilege of spending hours and hours processing/selling off the parts and then sending the rest to the dump/crusher. |

Even these cars with their rotted out chassis, likely have some value, but not enough to pay someone else for the privilege of spending hours and hours processing/selling off the parts and then sending the rest to the dump/crusher. what i was getting at jeff is that the VW guys handling this "screwed it up". someone saw economic opportunity in it all? i was half kidding. yeah they should have been free. and i dunno if you actually get paid for scrap in the USA but down here you don't. the scrap guys give you nothing and in some cases charge to get it off the property - esp if its a difficult removal involving more of their time than a simple drag it on to a flat bed and off to the scrap yard. one of my mates picked up a citroen xm that way here. scrap guys wanted $500 to get it out of the back yard it was trapped in. and i could see why. my mate got it out for free if the owner paid for the flat bed truck hire. they did a deal. it cost my mate nothing and the owner only paid half the amount the scrap guy wanted to charge. he got the xm going for about another 2.5K. however the xm was actually a good car, all that was really wrong with it was its hydraulics were stuffed and it was trapped sitting down about 2 inches off the ground. it was not a rusted out bucket of you know what. interesting car if you like that sort of thing. |

Hands down one of the best cars i have ever driven. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) those SMs are amazing. i've been in one once in my life as a passenger. never forgotten it. the XM is a later 90s car. don't think there are many if any in USA. still a few left here. the last of the big citroens before peugeot completely destroyed the legacy. when you have them sorted they are pretty damn good. but at this point in time a real handful to keep on the road with the hydraulics. always leaking from somewhere. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) ive driven my mates from time to time. and i would say its the best big car i have ever driven. drive it with one figure at 70mph effortlessly. and the suspension is just something else. soft but firms up on corners. got ECUs in it that react to the road. pretty stunning when its all working together - which isn't necessarily all of the time.
