Hello and Happy New Year's Eve! My name is Lance, and earlier this year, I bought my first car, I bought a 914!.

My dad has had his 911 since his college days, and when it came time for me to purchase a car, he encouraged me to follow a similar path. 911 Prices are too high for a high school senior, so I began to learn more about the Porsche brand. That is when I discovered the 914 and fell in love immediately. A few months pass, and eventually, I went to look at, and then subsequently buy, a project 914.

Since then I have been lurking on this forum researching and learning. My car has finally reached a point where it is mechanically solid, a little less than a year later.

It is 1970 914/4 with a (not original to the car) carbureted 2.0L engine and a side shift transmission. Both the engine and transmission have been rebuilt, and the most recent project has been swapping the wheels from four to five lug because it is so far from stock anyways. It has been through a few repaints but has retained its original color, L60E Irish Green. While both the hell hole and longs were solid, the trunk has a patch of rust that still needs repair.

It got back on the road in August, and since then I have been driving it almost daily.

Unloading the car with the help of my Dad and Grandfather.

A recent photo that shows the current state of the car, running and driving in my school's parking lot.

More photos will follow, whenever I can sort through all of them.

Hey Guys!!! Long time no update but I had been driving my car pretty much every day for the past couple years to and from around SLO and my internship in the North Bay until things went south.

People may have seen my post in the flatbed thread, but my engine grenaded itself and thus began the soul searching into my path forward.

I am still a college student, so although a full -6 swap would be amazing, budget is looking slim.

I thought about letting the car sit on the side yard of my parent's house, and biking everywhere. I've got enough bicycles where I could ride a new one every day of the week and still have leftovers. (This is what I get for being a bicycle framebuilder...)

Honestly, that is probably what would have happened if it wasn't for what continues to be unlimited generosity of the 914world community when fiacra reached out about some engines he had in storage that he was willing to sell to me at college student pricing.

I have bought one of his engines and will hopefully (with help) put it together and in my car. It is totally in pieces but the main unknown for me is actually the fuel injection. I installed carbs on my last engine, (which I still have) but would be very interested in setting up the factory fuel injection as I now possess what appears to be a pretty complete kit.

What are the reputable threads for fuel injection information, and does anyone know the best threads that document the process of putting in/together an engine step by step?

P.S. Pictures to come

Hey Lance, it was great to meet your dad today and I have my fingers crossed the engine works out. Keep me posted. We took a quick look together through the boxes of parts and hopefully everything you need is there. If not, hit me up and I'll see what I can find in my spare parts. Unlike the other engine I have this one definitely is "some assembly required" but it has promise. Things we know it needs, like a flywheel, clutch and fan can be salvaged from your blown engine. I might suggest you get it running with the carb setup you already have and then convert to FI once you have some time to go through all the components and fill in any gaps and make any repairs (like rebuilding the MPS, getting a new FI harness from Jeff, etc.). There is a learning curve for the D-Jet FI and you might spend some time on that journey before taking the plunge. I'd hate to see your car getting too comfortable on jackstands (IMG:style_emoticons/default/evilgrin.gif) . I don't have any threads to recommend, but if you haven't already explored Jeff Bowlsby's website you'll find a lot of resources there. He also, as I noted, makes new FI harnesses and having a well functioning FI harness is key to having a reliable system. I know you've also reached out to Chris (tygaboy) and there is no better person to have on your team. Looking forward to seeing you back on the road (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)
