Heads-up for fellow teeners: Blaupunkt’s new “Frankfurt Stereo” is coming

I came across this and thought others might be interested.
Blaupunkt is launching the Frankfurt Stereo retro car radio (expected Spring 2026). It’s styled like a 1970s unit, so it should look right at home in a 914 dash, but it still includes modern features like A 3″ Digital Colour Display, DAB+, FM/AM, Bluetooth streaming and hands-free, USB/AUX, and multi-channel pre-amp output.

The form factor and styling look era-correct with the black face, chrome trim, rotary knobs, and push buttons. Could be a nice option for anyone wanting a stock-looking setup with modern functionality.

anyone got a depth dimension on these units.
i have explored internet trying so see if its shorter in depth than original units,
and can't find a dimension.

Well, I expect they will have the same chassis and innards as the current Blaupunkt 1-DIN spec radio heads do - like the one I currently have in my car. They are actually significantly shorter than the original Blaupunkts (I have a Frankfurt from ~'79 that I took out of the car). Note that the "features" mention "short body"...

The new unit didn't fit in the original snap-in metal carrier - it is in fact thicker than the original radio - it just slides in to the opening. It is therefore only held in by the rear attachment screw. The firewall attachment point was far enough away so that I had to make a bracket to get it attached in the rear.

I think the only thing I will miss in the retro design is the front-mounted USB. I actually use that a lot, having music stored on several USB sticks. However, it shouldn’t be too hard to put in a discreet under-dash USB extension for that.

I think instead of hooking up a USB that is somewhere that may be hard to access, I’d just use the Bluetooth capabilities of the new unit. Heck, even if you had to buy an old iPhone and never add a phone carrier to it you should have 64 or 128 gb of music available.

On my original Frankfurt, there is a DIN plug that came on the unit (I think my Frankfurt is circa 1970). I bought and use an Bluetooth adapter that plugs into that DIN. Then hook my phone via Bluetooth. Works flawlessly. It connects as soon as I start the car.

Is this the 6-pin round "input port" on the back? Where did you get it? Is it powered via the DIN plug?
