I have a 74(2.0) that has issues when it’s hot outside. I’ll drive it and then it won’t start or stalls when stopped. It tries to start crescendo like ramping up faster and faster and when it does I have to keep the RPMs going or it will die. I’ve never had a problem when the weather is not hot. Until today. I drove it this morning and it’s cold outside, and I’ve encountered the same issue. Any ideas? Vapor lock? Not even sure. Thanks.

Need more information to properly diagnose but at this point I don't consider any 914 reliable until it has had the fuel pump relocated under the tank. I also update to the later style 2 port pump as they are available new and relatively cheap. They are easier to plumb and given their age I think all 3 port pumps are questionable.

Other updates I make to the fuel system are to remove the plastic pre pump filter (VW started to do this in the mid 80s on Vanagons using the same pump to combat cavitation / pump starvation issues) and install a high pressure low micron post pump filter instead.

Not saying that is for sure your problem (or only problem) but its a known issue that should be addressed if you want a reliable car.
