All,
I am looking to change the oil pump as a way to up my oil pressure. I understand that this may well not help, but having a new oil pump around is OK. With that in mind, what are my options? I will pull the motor but hope to not split the case. Is this even possible? Which pump? Thanks Peter |

OK thanks for the replies. I think I am getting there. Sounds like my best option for keeping the car on the road is to build the spare motor, measuring out the pump etc. Swap that in for the first motor then pull the pump measure everything find a pump and reinstall.
90% sure its a T1 pump now. @superhawk995 do you collect OEM T4 pumps and just go through them to find a good one or do you buy one from one of the main supplier and pin it yourself? Thanks, Peter |

Thanks, Peter What pressure switch you have in there was going to be my next question as I have seen quite a few with to high a PSI set point that set off the light at idle. If you have an aftermarket T1 pump in there its possible (and I wouldn't be surprised) the case tolerances are (IMG:style_emoticons/default/stromberg.gif) Pretty easy to determine that, assuming it wasn't glued in as the sloppy pumps you can usually pull out by hand. A good fitting pump is a near interference fit where you will have to loosen the surrounding case half bolts and still most likely need to drive in. Check it out, if you can pull the pump with minimal effort call Jorge at European Motorwerks and get one of his sleeved type 3 pumps, that is the easiest route. I have seen acceptable results with the Melling pumps as well but prefer the modified type 3 for being aluminum bodied and having proper port alignment. |

A good fitting pump is a near interference fit where you will have to loosen the surrounding case half bolts and still most likely need to drive in. The case oil pump bore ID is 70mm (2.756”) A OEM T4 pump is 2.757” This is a light interference fit. It’s not necessary to unbolt the case halves. Simply warm the case with a propane torch this will expand the pump bore. Slide pump right in. Easy peasy. |
