While disassembling our fresh air box, I noticed that 3 of the fan blades have a wire clip on them. What is their purpose?
My only guess is for balancing, but seems like there would be better options to balance a plastic fan. I don't see any sensor that would be associated with them. ![]() |

After I discovered them I had them on the tech quiz for the event we hosted. No one was able to guess what they were Worked as an engineering intern in college, job was balancing giant HVAC fans for the buildings on campus. It’s amazing how little weight is needed to balance a fan. The larger the impeller diameter is or the faster it spins the more force a tiny balance weight generates. That’s why the weights are just a thin piece of wire on these blower - they spin at a pretty decent speed. |
