Thinking about replacing my stock horns with something like these (Hella T24):
https://www.amazon.de/HELLA-Frequenzbereich...urce=1&th=1 Various sites seem to indicate they will (physically) fit… They pull 72W each! So 12A total. The horn fuse is 16A, but it also runs the two 55W accessory driving lights in the bumper, which in my Euro spec car go on with the high beams. So imagine driving with the high beams on and having to honk… Only momentary, but that’s like a 21-22A draw thru that fuse. I guess in order to avoid this possibility, I am going to need an additional fuse and relay… Hmmm. |

@chmillman
You could swap the headlights to LED and reduce the draw on the circuit. If you add a relay the load still have to be drawn from some circuit. |

@chmillman You could swap the headlights to LED and reduce the draw on the circuit. If you add a relay the load still have to be drawn from some circuit. Yep, thought about putting in Spoke’s LED conversions in my driving lights. Not street legal here though, so when inspection time comes I would have to change them back. Plus they are listed as 5700K, which would be a telltale sign for anyone that they have been changed, and ruins the ‘70’s warm halogen light aesthetic for me. Too bad there isn’t a 3700K version available for those. I’m going without an extra relay currently, will test at some point with the brights on and honk the horn a bit to see if a fuse blows. If so, I thought about running a second wire from battery + and fused for 15A just for the horns. I also have a set of yellow Sharptones coming - won’t sound quite as nice, but only draw 44W each and are disc style, so they would fit right in. |
