I am just stating the fact here, not complaining. Your shipping cost could be 3/4 of the price of the item you bought. In my case a set of front hood springs shipping came to $40 with fees. Ouch because the hood springs cost $57, so the total was $97. Prices for shipping are NOT in the hands of the seller. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif)

I feel your pain. As you might imagine, there are very few suppliers of 914 parts in this country, so I usually need to order from neighboring Germany or France. The minimum shipping is maybe around $20 no matter how small the item is. So if I need something small like a CHT sensor, that basically doubles the price. And that might still fall under the customs small item limit. Over that and I get charged customs and paperwork fees.

A friend of mine recently sent me a 123 dizzy from Germany via DHL and he unfortunately declared it at its full value. 30€ to ship on his end, but I got a bill from DHL afterwards for another 60€ - half of that is import sales tax (8.1%) and the other half paperwork fees.

Getting stuff from the US is worse. A T-Bird supplier wanted $75 to ship a small package with about $25 worth of stuff. They only use FedEx and that’s what it costs. OTOH I had them send me about $1000/100 lbs. of brake drums, shoes, cylinders etc. and the shipping was only $200. Plus another $150 in import taxes and fees on this end.

So yeah, wait as long as you can, make your list and then order big…
