What is the secret to the rear trunk latch spring and bushing? The bushing i have I'm assuming is worn out since it just slides off the post, is there a ridge inside the bushing that holds it in place with the tension of the spring?

no secret, the plastic bushing just goes bad. INstall a new guaranteed for life one and be on your way, make sure that you lube the trunk hinge pivot bolts!!!
