Yes, the tires on the car have 100% tread left and were "the" tires to have back in the day: Michelin XZX's. Problem is that they are probably about 30 years old.

They are 165/SR/15's

What are the recommended tires now days?

Wheels are ATS 5 1/2 Jx15 H2

as @930cabman says the XZX are available and as he notes - expensive.
as are XAS, which in my opinion are even better but even more expensive.

my two bobs worth, they are worth every penny.
if running original size tyres is your thing - and its my thing for sure.
these new versions only look like the old ones back in the day.
since michelin issue them for vintage kooks like us they have much softer compounds that what they had back half a century ago since they know the cars no longer do the miles they did new so tyres are softer (grippier) compound now. also internal construction has been updated to modern materials and methods.

the size is original as is the tread pattern - thats about it.

reason i have them is they ride right and look right.
i had to update to bilsteins when i replaced the orignal boges 5 or so years back.
no boges. the bilsteins are noticeably firmer. the tall boy profile helps compensate a little for the firmness and smooth out rougher inner city roads and potholes down here in north antarctica.

plenty of grip, even though they are 165s. the early 911 guys and the alfa guys run the XAS down here and not on their garage queens either.

only one minus. the old tread patterns don't handle the wet like new tyres.
so if you figure you are going to drive a lot in the rain maybe not so good.
