Having been doing a lot of suspension work on my 914 of late, has necessitated unmounting and mounting my wheels repeatedly. Putting the hub-centric fronts back on is a piece of cake, but those damn lug-centric rears are always a pain to line up the lug nut holes, especially in the bright Florida sunshine. Is there a reason Porsche chose lug-centric for the rears? If there is, then I can more readily accept the aggravation they cause. Is there a hack to make it easier? Someone please educate me...Thanks.

Both "Hub-centric" and studs are the recipe in my book.
My current set up uses 14-6 rotors drilled for 5 lug (PMBs stuff) with studs. This set up is still lug centric in the back. A member on here CNCd a set of hub-centic adaptors. I bought extras... The reason they went lug centric was associated with cost IMO. It very quickly became apparent that a hub centric mounting was significantly stronger and easier to achieve wheel centering during installation. In accidents the wheels stayed on the cars better with hub centric mounting. I do not believe I've seen lug centric mounting on ANYTHING built in the last 3 decades... |
