This '75 is my second 914, the first was a '72 that was great while it lasted. I bought both rust free cars in New Mexico and was fortunate enough to gather several loads of parts over the years. This '75 is a general conglomeration of things like put together on a 914.
I found an ad on Craigslist posted by an American Muscle Car guy who was threatening to scrap the 1.8L 914 after running the ad several times with no takers. I got it for $500 plus it came with fender flares that were never installed. Attached image(s)

Today I started the engine (in the car) for the first time. It pretty much started right up with out catching fire, external leaks, or anything breaking! After 5 - 10 minutes I noticed oil coming out of the tailpipe. The previous mentioned issues were my biggest fears so I'm not pissed.
* 1.8L heads * 96mm cylinders w/ Deves 96mm (2mm top, 2mm mid, 5mm oil piston rings) * Tangerine engine oil pressure relief * stock oil cooler * high volume oil pump 96mm (AA cylinders and pistons) BUT I swapped the AA pistons for ones that seemed to provide better oiling and would have more stability in the cylinder... and brand new rings - Deves 96mm (2mm top, 2mm mid, 5mm oil piston rings) Looks like the #2 is the only one not getting oil in it... I checked the oil (break in oil)level after that 5-10 minutes of running and half of the engine oil was gone!!!... some could've been "gone" cause the filter got filled but still a ton of oil missing. I'm preparing to drop the engine and take the heads off and recheck pistons, rings, etc.... BUT I'm hoping for some miracle info someone might have for something I may have missed.... but three out of four cylinders.... can we call it "leaking"!?!? Attached image(s)
