Not remotely suggesting this is applicable to the sports car / 914 driving experience. But the notion of solving infinite gear ratios (CVT) with a planetary gearset is interesting from an engineering perspective!

I did some reading on the Prius drivetrain early in the 2nd generation. I think they used a similar setup, with either a planetary gearset or something similar that linked the ICE and electric motors to the drive wheels.
