The heat exchanger jackets on my exhaust are rusted and loose while the exhaust pipes seem fine. I'm thinking of just removing them with a cutoff wheel to eliminate the rattling. The heater valves are 53 years old and work about as well as you would think. Don't really need them here in SoCal. Is there a cap for the cooling fan outlets to the heat exchangers or do I need to fabricate something? If I can contain that cooling airflow, I would imagine that the engine cooling will be a bit more effective.

Contrairy to the general belief, closing those outlets on the fan housing would actually decrease the volume of air to the engine because you would change the shroud's internal airflow and efficiency.

This is a comment I read from Jake Raby a while back and is based on a test he did.
I will try to find his quote on the topic...

Thanks! I had suspected that this could be an issue. I wonder if Raby addressed how one could smooth the flow out in the fan housing to address this. Further research required!!! I had already capped the longitudinal ducts with spray can caps. Great idea!
