Well I got this great deal on 2.0 case except with my excitement and lack of knowledge is it possible said case is actually one side aluminum as was told and the other side magnesium? If so, what heck can I do with it?Attached Image

Both case halves are magnesium. 2R case vs 3R case.

Unfortunately it’s not a great plan to be mix and matching case halves. There are multiple reasons for this. Probably not worth going into details here but case halves are machined as a pair. You can’t just mix and match two separate case halves without line bore, and incremental machine work.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Even if you went to the trouble of doing the machine work, any future buyer would be suspect of the mismatched case halves.

Would make for a great coffee table. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

Perhaps I’m off my rocker and others will correct me.

edit: you could do a quick check - case 1/2’s are factory stamped as a matched pair (ex: 931, 123, etc) before they are machined to keep them in matched pairs. You could check to see if both 1/2s have the same number and came from factory as a 2R/3R pair.

Another tell: early cases don’t have oil squirters. Are both 1/2’s the same (ie no squirters) on both 1/2’s?
