BAT was offering a complete set, non-oily, 914/6 set of shop manuals

I dropped out at 1300, bidding went to 3500.

Turns out the Bid-up guys were also from NH - I am in Boston and NH......

Just a reminder that back in the dark ages before the internet, the only repair references were on paper (or maybe microfiche--kids, ask your grandad). Companies like Haynes did a pretty good job, but the holy grail was a factory shop manual. And most were not available to the public.

My first car/project was a 1969 Fiat 124 Spider, in 1974. I remember getting access to the upstairs attic of an old shop, and finding a factory manual only one year off.

A few years later, lighting stuck again. I was restoring a 2002 and found the 2 volume BMW factory shop manual in a run-down bookstore.

Finally, during my first 914 episode, I acquired some of the red binder Porsche manuals. But by then people were sharing digital copies.
