Hello Gang,

I picked up 5 - 15x6 'flat 6' Fuchs and had them restored. They are finished in the classic black/anodized paddles design - the should be here tomorrow. Now I need to purchase tires for these beauties. I've spent the last 3 nights looking for tires for my 914 and I'm more confused than when I started. We really need a 'sticky thread' for tires.

I currently have 14" Fuchs on the car with 185/70R14 tires. The existing package looks small and yet also 'tire heavy' - meaning the sidewall of the tire compared to the rim size is 'off'... the sidewall just looks big and not attractive to me; with the 15's I would like to correct that aesthetic.

I would like a tire with 'some' sidewall, so I've ruled out anything with a sidewall shorter than a 60 series tire. I really don't like all the crazy modern tread patterns or spastic looking sidewall designs. I think I'm keen on the more classic sidewall (not busy/crazy looking) and nothing too 'boy racer' (modern tires all look like you're trying to prove something).

I won't be doing any autoX or driving events. The car will have a 2056/Ljet motor, stock brakes, F/R OEM anti-sway bars. Most likely not driven daily, just a weekend and special day kind of car.

I am leaning towards 195/60R15s, I could do 205/60R15s in the rear but I'm not 100% sold that I need 'all that tire'. Should I consider 195/65s or will that get me back into that same issue I have now with the 185/70/R14s?

This is almost as bad as asking 'what oil should I use'... but... What are your recommendations for 15" tires in the 195/60 or 195/65 size? Are Vredestein tires any good? Do I just bite the bullet and get the Michelins? Any suggestions are welcomed.

Ted

It kind of depends on how low your car is. I have 15x6 deep Fuchs on my Six; I am about 1.25" lower than stock ride height (+-). I am running 195x65x15 tires on my car and I think they look just right. I could probably squeeze a 205 in there but do not want to chance any paint damage. (Sorry for the bad lighting in the picture)
