SO, I bought a $375 part from Canada. Seller shipped UPS and part arrived at border. I got and invoice from UPS for $109. IMPORT TARIFF $85,BROKER FEE $24 and IF I did not pay ASAP an additional $20 delay fee. So my bargain cost $485. No more parts from Canada for me. It doesn't seem very unusual to have import fees. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

Same applies the other way around when Canadian import car parts from the US.

- First: Duty fee if the part wasn't manufactured in the US: 6-8%
- Second: Federal good and service tax is applied on the goods and the duty fees: 5%
- Third: Provincial tax is applied on the goods and the duty fees -> Province based (Alberta 0% to Quebec 10%)
- Fourth: Carrier will charge you brokage fees
- Fifth: You will also pay federal and provincial tax on those brokage fees.

Yep, it cost to import stuff! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif)

One way around it is hand carry your parts across the border and benefit of exemption which is $800 value if you stay 48h (both ways).
Moreso, if you cross from Canada to US, that $800 is per persone per household in the vehicle. Go with your wife and bring back $1600 worth! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
