***Go to the end for the UPDATE***

Hi all you teeners

My car's idle sticks at 2k if I turn it off and start it immediately it goes back to 950.

Looking for a vendor to fix this - I of course rebuilt it when the engine was out. I am sure all was done correctly (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) I believe that the wrong springs may have been in the rebuild kit.

Is there a vendor that rebuilds and calibrates these?

Thank you Teeners!

Soooooooooooo

I got this car running - and mechanically it is sound, but I had a great deal of trouble with the carbs and bought a new set - WHICH - I could never get set completely correct, etc.

Hard to start

Hard to set idle

Looked at timing a few times - all good idle and 6K

THEN!!!!!!

The throttle started to stick at 2K. If I turned the ignition off for a second and then turned it back on the car would settle back at ~1K

HHHHHMMMMMmmmmmm

I decided to check the distro,

here are the old and new springs

When I did the rebuild (simplest mechanical device ever) there are just a few parts. The weights are good and the springs seemed OK, HOWEVER.......

The springs I received from the rebuild kit (on the right in the picture) were different - I called them and verified that I received the correct springs........hhhmmm

Yesterday I put in the old springs (on the left, in very good shape) and they held the weights at rest under tension where the new springs from the kit had a bit of slack in the weights......double HHHhhhhmmmm

Put the distro back in the hole, buttoned it up turned the key AND!

The car started instantly, and settled at an idle WHILE cold. This would not happen prior.

Reset the timing at idle and the RPMs rose to 2K. I backed off the idles screws - slowly and watched the car settle at 980ish. Wow.

Drove the car and the power curve is much better, less spitting THOUGH i will need to go through the least-lean method again, running rich but not too rich,

Also, on a down shift too much fuel - had a BIG-BANG in the muffler.....YOW

Moral of the story - vendors have new employees who do things wrong and do not realize it. Check the product if it looks wrong.

I believe all of my carb chasing was a product of this situation where the timing floated a few degrees at low RPMS,,,,,,,,

Will update when I do the least-lean
