I would appreciate it if folks who have 14-inch Fuchs wheels could share photos of them on the car along with their tire size.

Our 1970 914-6 has what appear to be authentic Fuchs 5 1/2 J 14. I believe these were an original factory option. Trying to decide on tires. The manual and sticker on the car only indicates "185 HR 14". So no sidewall height is indicated.

I know there are lots of tire threads. I've been poking around the forum and I've seen listed everything from "185/70/14 was the OEM size" to "82 if they were measured like today's tires".

Vredestein Sprint Classic would seem like an easy choice, but they are out of stock everywhere I have looked.

Ultimately I guess I'm going to be stuck with what's available today and making an aesthetic choice. It will be spirited street driving in California, so I don't need to worry about all-weather or track demands. What's on the car now is 195/70R14 90R - Riken Radial 70 Steel Belted. Not a great photo as it's on a lift and the engine is out. I would normally run with a bit higher air pressure. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smash.gif)

Alas, it is 3 years later and I'm finally at the point where I am near driving the car and can justify actually buying tires. The 14-inch Pirellis don't appear to be an option anymore.

Has anyone installed the Vredstein Sprint Classic 185HR14? If so, I'd be interested to see photos and hear experience with those.

I went down the rabbit hole of comparing the Vredstein Sprint Classic 185HR14 to the 185/70VR14. According to tire rack the 185HR14 sidewall aspect ratio is 80. This is what the sticker on the car lists for optional wheels / tires. It's also $37 per tire cheaper. So I'm wondering if there's any compelling reason to consider the 70.

Feature Contrast | 185HR14 | 185/70VR14
Speed rating (mph) | H = 130 | V = 149
Sidewall Aspect Ratio | 80 | 70
Diameter (inches) | 25.6 | 24.2
Price (each) | $181 | $218

The 1.4" diameter makes a bigger difference in appearance than I would expect if you trust the tire size visualizer.

Our suspension is stock setup. No flares or rolled fenders. We have the optional 5 1/2 JX14 Fuchs forged alloy wheels.
