My Rustoration is pretty much finished with a new 2056 engine and new paint etc. The last bit being added is the engine lid, and it doesn't want to close. The lid edge welting I purchased is bigger than the original: can that be a problem?

Normally I would ascribe this to an error on my part, but the lid is not clearing the trunk lid, and they both hinge from the same part of the car, a part I didn't have to fix or change.

Any suggestions? I have already added more fore and aft play by enlarging the holes in the lid hinges.
