Decals for a 2.0 Options

For a 73 2.0, does someone know what the correct sticker is for the right front wheel arch? This one says it is for a 1.7 L.

Also, are there any decals in the engine compartment for a 73 2.0?

i knew the octane ratings were all there and all in one place.
just had to remember.
haynes manual.




same info can be found but scattered and particular to each model market and year in the owners manual for each car.

eg. UK market owners manual.
lists the octane rating for the ROW 74 cars.
higher octane higher compression engines than USA.



i don't have a 73 USA owners manual. never come across one even on line to file.
but i will bet it lists those octane ratings for cars in there and distinguishes the calif 1.7 from the USA 1.7.

i'm guessing what has you wondering is why would the calif 1.7 have the modernised smaller sticker same as the 73 2.0s but the 49 state 1.7 has the earlier style sticker.
(note too, even the later ones grey ones are in german too. just not as many german words. octane is spelt okton (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) ). i would say its because they did new stickers for the new engines that were designed to run on unleaded. being the USA wide 2.0 and the calif 1.7 and just kept the old stickers on the higher compression 49 state 1.7s which were more or less unchanged from the 1972 EA engines. that would be my guess.

i'd also guess that the 2.0 was beefy enough even in unleaded form which porsche would have envisaged from the get go with that later 2.0 engine that VW/Porsche could go USA wide with it from the start. why bother with a one year only higher compression 2.0 just keep it simple. but the 1.7 was a different story. the EA really was the last gasp of the old high compression leaded fuel and in californian low compression form it was truly gutless. so they just wrung what they could out of the EA where it could still be sold for one more year. i also suspect that the Ljets were supposed to be for 73 but got held up in development. the white engine painted stamp numbers seem to hint at that. the 74 L jets have lower sequence numbers there and the EA and EB of 73 numbers are higher, as if added as an afterthought or later addition. suggesting to me that 73 was a fill in year they cobbled together while they waited to get the L jet system fully sorted and to market.

i'll have a snoop around BAT when i get some time and see if i can turn up another trustworthy calif delivered 1.7. truth is they don't seem to come up often with all stickers etc surviving or documented and in a trustworthy enough original state.
