the car is pretty original 74' 1.8 with the original FI.
It started to run poorly when hot, she took it to a shop, and they said it needed new points. They replaced those but later it continued to run poorly even cold. last time she drove it, it died shortly after leaving. She got a 123 Ignition distributor, so I went over to help put it in. I'm not a mechanic but have owned 914's since 1977. most of them with carbs not FI We pulled the #1 plug and it was extremely sooty. I guess we need to put the distributor in and see how it runs but I'm leery that is going to fix the running so rich issue. Any thoughts or direction would be greatly appreciated. |

Check cylinder head temp sensor resistance both hot and cold. A 1.8L would be using the 012 sensor.
