What's the trick to remove the shift finger assembly from the trans? PO had some sealant on it. Not sure if that is holding it in, or do I need to do something else to remove it?

It maybe in gear. When in neutral it is all lined up and should pull out but if the fingers are turned and the rods inside are not lined up, the "shift fingers" can get caught up. I had all FUBAR but got it. Even a small amount can catch.
