My 1974 1.8 with fuel injection will only start by manually opening the throttle but I can't get it idle and thus run properly. I recently had the AFM rebuilt and replaced the points, plugs, condenser and replaced the CHT sensor but the problem continues as it did before. I've looked for vacuum leaks to no avail with starter fluid. I now seek the expertise of the members of this forum for additional suggestions.

It was suggested to me today by a person with several 914's that since it now runs and idles but doesn't want to perform properly under load that perhaps I may have a flat cam. How common is this issue and could this be the problem? It's never been mentioned before by anyone. Any input is welcome.

I sure hope you and others are correct as It's never come up until someone mentioned it at a car show Saturday. So I finally realized that you are in Australia ---is that correct? Appreciate your feedback. |

Pretty amazing have your 914 visiting the world with you. Can you get service work done over there? My Uncle lived in Australia when he was stationed there for years and loved it. I've been reading more about cam issues and it doesn't seem like they just happen overnight but slowly your car will begin to lose its power and only get worse. We are revisiting the fuel pump under load and also further inspecting the dual relay in case it's overheating under load. Stay tuned. |
