How do you tell if a shift rod is bent?
I've looked at pictures of others from the same angle, and it appears mine may be bent.

Is there any way to tell without buying another one?

Hard to tell but most of them are bent. I have a jig I use to fix them.
How does it line up in the back to the coupler at the trans? They can be off by a bunch and still work. Is it rubbing on the engine bar?
They bent so the curve gets greater.

It lines up fine and doesn't touch the engine bar. It keeps popping out of second gear when accelerating if you don't keep touching the shifter. And I mean just touching. Maybe I'm being hopeful that I might be able to replace the rod or adjust is =t out before sending the trans to Evil Werks. All bushings etc. are new and everything is nice and tight.
