I have the rear trailing arm off for replacement and looking at the oil tank.... the paint job was obviously not up for the task. The car only has a 4000 miles since this was installed new. Everything on this car (snoopy) was done with new and or original style parts so from a visual perspective it all looks original. But I just can't see how the steel tank wouldn't be better if it was aluminum. The filler neck is also a reproduction part and has tons of rust from condensation- surprising considering how much this stuff costs!

So- I'm on the fence- pull what I have and send it out for some type of 2 part epoxy treatment and get the filler neck cad plated, do my best with a wire brush and use some quality rubberized spray (not great for heat transfer- if that matters) or sell it and go all aluminum.

Also seems like a good idea to get the chrome trim back on with the tank out....

An original tank has a lot of appeal; pull it and have it blasted and see if the inside can be treated to protect it and powder coat the outside. I would have the filler neck, dip stick, clamps, etc. re-plated and reinstall. Original tanks are hard to find. Love your build. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)
