Hi all. You're probably aware of the fact I just bought a '74 2.0 from Root_Werks. There's one small problem with it: an exhaust leak. The general consensus seems to be to have the heads rebuilt ("while I'm in there" #1), thus saving the worry about them later on.
My problem is I don't really know too much about these heads. As long as I'm going to replace them, I figure I'd might as well get them from Jake, as it seems he might possibly know what he's talking about when it comes to Type IVs. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wink.gif) And that's where my struggle begins. I don't plan on building this engine into any sort of monster (yet...), I just want a good set of heads rebuilt to reliable standards. If i could grab some horses from it while I'm at it, I certainly won't complain. I'd really rather not spend over $1000 (preferably more like $800) on these heads. I took a gander at these: http://www.aircooledtechnology.com/store/p...&cat=257&page=1 However, there's no real description of what they are. I see they're heads with what I assume are a 42mm exhaust valve and a 36mm intake valve, have oval ports (as opposed to the square Bus ones, right?) and fit a 96mm bore (which I thought was a 2056, but I could be wrong....). Is this what I'm looking for? Does Jake even offer heads that would fit a STOCK 2.0? (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/confused24.gif) I tried searching, but seem to be rather "searchtarded" as one member put it. I don't partiuclarly want to send my heads off to be rebuilt. I suppose I might sell them once I get the new ones, but who knows. Thanks!!! my opinion is to rebuild to stock specs to get the car on the road then, while you're driving it and enjoying it, save up and get plans in order for what ever you want to do to hop up the car. send the heads to jakes partner hoffman, spruce up the engine compartment while the engines out.
