Anyone know the diffs between early (pre 74) and late 911 struts?
I know the nut on the spindle is a different size. Are the hubs interchangable? The bearings are the same. |

Basically there are 3 types of 911 strut, the very early one where the balljoint mountswo the bottom of the strut 3 with bolts, the next generation strut clamped the ball joint in place, the later iteration held the ball joint with a wedge bolts.
There are also differnces in struts depending whether they cam with Bilstien, Boge, or Koni inserts. The later struts used a coarse thread pinch nut, compared the the earlier two version fin thread pinch nut. the bearings and races are the same though. One caveat, if using a early hub on with late style struts/pinch bolts, you may have to open the hub a bit on a lathe to clear the pinch bolts. There is the fourth type of stut also, the raised spindle/theaded body RSR type |
