After seeing some responses to other posts her, I gather there are more than a few 'tech types' lurking around here...thought I'd share some pics of our Data-Center.

From a sheer size perspective the most impressive compute room I've
ever seen was out at Novell back in the early 90's. They created a test lab that would run something like 20,000+ PCs all running Novell. It was pretty primative. Each PC had a full monitor and a keyboard. They were all loaded onto Bakers racks with wheels and then all put into a BIG room. The surface area of the room was supposedly bigger than the AstroDome palying field. It was MASSIVE. You could look out a window in their viewing room and barely see the other end of the room. It consumed so much power that they had the power company drop in their own private 50kv transformer substation just to run it. For power back up they used these jet engines that were loaded with TNT to kick start them if the power ever should go down. I've never been a PC/Windows/Novell fan but this lab was so big it was actually amazing. --- bill |
