I need to have my altenator rebuild on my 2.7 and I've removed the fan and housing from the engine but can't seem to be able to seperate the alternator from this assembly. There is a round "nut" with two flat sides and a notch in the middle ...is this special tool time again? The alt is a Marchaval or however it's spelded (spelt?,lol...) Anyone here come across this? TIA.

Cap'n thanks for your help, but I haven't seperated anything...the fan, fan housing and alternator are all still together. I figured removing this so called "nut" might free the fan, but it's not a normal looking nut and when it's turned the large bolt that it's attached to (comes out of the center of the alternator) turns with it, very easily. So, how does the fan come off?
