I need to have my altenator rebuild on my 2.7 and I've removed the fan and housing from the engine but can't seem to be able to seperate the alternator from this assembly. There is a round "nut" with two flat sides and a notch in the middle ...is this special tool time again? The alt is a Marchaval or however it's spelded (spelt?,lol...) Anyone here come across this? TIA.

Hey "Z", that fan won't just pull off unless I get that crazy looking "nut" off the alt shaft though, right? I think it'll need to come off first, and looks like it'll take a special tool..maybe it's an uncommon design because most are using Bosch alts instead of Marchaval? I'll look at it again this evening and try what you've suggested.
