The vast majority of 2.7Ls came with Alusil cylinders...finding Nikasil cyls on a 2.7L in like hitting the lotto. The Alusils are not
a good thing for a hot rodder as the only pistons (these need a ferrro-coat pistons) available for them are CIS domed.....which means low compression & stockish cams......but with Webers & headers, such a motor is good for 175-185 hp......a nice bump from 95.....with a killer flat toruqe curve. The Alusils are also all aluminum and need Divliar studs.....24 of em' plus case savers.....IMO. The stock 2.4L E & S had Brial cylinders. Nikasils came out after normal 2.4L production was over, IIRC. They can be used in any applications....with Divilar studs, case savers, yada. Personally, I wouldn't screw around (like I did (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif) ) with a mag case motor unless I was building for class. The 3.0L is a much better motor, tho they have the stud weakness that should be addressed with the latest studs. |
