Is there anyway to do this w/o the special tool? Do you need a special tool to install it as well?

IF you are replacing the dogteeth (why else would you remove it from the gear?) you do not need the special tool. I was able to cut/grind my 2nd gear dogteeth almost all the way off without touching the gear. Then it was just a matter of using a chisle (sp?) and hammer to get it the rest of the way off.
To install the new one, I just used a block of wood and a 3 pound hammer to bang it on. JUst make sure it goes on evenly and fully. |
