yes. tar paper is the sound deadening on the floors.
I use a 12$ heat gun from Harbor Freight and a 3 inch puddy knife. Some people use propane.. but I dont like having an open flame in the passenger compartment if I dont have too. The key is to make a few passes over the area with the heat gun prior to digging in. Then lead the puddy knife with the heat gun. There is a perfect ratio of heat to tar. If you get it to hot..its gooey. Just right and it peels up in small sheets. I pull the wiring out of the little trough that it sits in to do the tunnel. It has enough slack in it that you can move it to the side and do sections. In my area.. during the summer.. you have several days before the chassis begins to rust. Only hand prints will rust on bare metal. So... i wont primer it before the body shop gets it. I will weld in all the stiffening I'm going to do to it before I ship to the painter. I will also weld up all holes and fix whatever rust needs to be done. B |
