I want to try and put an aluminum "veneer" on the front of a fiberglass bumper so I can maintain the nice chrome look. What do you folks think? I imagine that some very thin sheets of aluminum could be cut, polished and glued onto the F/G bumper for the original look.
I even considered mylar banner material, but I think it'll look like crap after the first stone chip. Has this idea been tried already? Does anybody see any major problems with attempting this? Yeah,, I'll probably be the guinea pig. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/idea.gif) |

We've had some of that chrome film in the sign shop. It's not as flexable as normal sign shop vinyl films. It will have a hard time contouring to the license plate recess and the edges of the bumper without coming off or wrinkling. Relief cuts would help but that would effect the quality of the job. It scratches very easily so getting the air out without a soft faced roller of some type would be diffucult. We don't use it where we can't use appllication tape. HTH Rick |
