pulling my gas tank to install a new fuel pump, filter and lines......started to wonder if anything was inside the expansion tank.....any reason I couldn't substitute a lighter, smaller tank for the same purpose???

the drain hose just goes out the underside of the car. it does that ON ALL CARS ... if you overspill your tank when filling up, the gas in the "catcher" around the filler neck will simply drain through that hose and come out under your car. the drain hose is the big transparent plastic hose. it works that way on all 914s. the vent hose is a smll dia. hose (on my car greenish) similar to the vaccum hose for the dizzy. i simply shoved it inside the large drain hose, so any gas vapors or slosh from a full tank will drain down the drain hose and exit at the bottom ...
