I have had to replace 2 bosch starters in just a little over a year. Is it common for 914's to go threw starters often? I have ran redundent grounds and power to see if it was an issue with that and i still have the same problems. Would a heat shield help at all?

You definitely have the relay! I have a 74 and I just removed the relay and made a nifty little jumper that replaces the relay. The reduction starter is gonna be a little spendy but look at it from a reliability standpoint! AL
