Took the 914 powered 356 up to Solvang over the weekend. Going up a hill it started pinging......I'm running Super, or what CA calls 91 octane. I'm thinking that the 009 that's in there is junk.
So, I'm looking for suggestions and a 050 dizzy if anyone has one laying around. This motor was Chris C's old motor before he went with the /6 in hos race car. Pulls like a tractor up to 5K then runs out of steam.....more advance than the 009 can give? |

I don't think Mike is saying the MAXIMUM advance is too high, it the curve that's wrong (ie advance at 3k is good, but maybe too high at say 2k). You don't fix this with gas additives or changing the angle at full advance unless you want to give up a bunch of power. Need a dizzy with proper curve.
Mike, throw a stock one in there. I don't understand why everybody ditches the stock dizzy when going to carbs. So what if it's got injector points. With all the money you are thowing at that thing you could go with a Mallory or better yet - for a couple bills you could go with a digital and program your own curve just the way you like it. -Ben M. (digital w/ curve programmed just the way I like it) |
