What size tie rods should be used to get the proper strength to make up some custom tie rods? Would 7/16" be adequate or should 1/2" be used?

Then run a half inch rod end for street use. It will be over kill but it will be safe. If you will make a custom steering arm that can mount the rod end in double shear you can run a 7/16. My race car is going to weigh 1500lbs and I am using 3/8 mounted in double shear. Should be adequate.

I think I will try to find a way to modify my steering arm so that I can run the outer end in double sheer and go with a 7/16". I have been looking on the web and have seen these turbo tie rod kits and bump steer kits. Does anyone know what size they run when they use spherical ends on the TTR's? However, I have not been able to find any specifications on them. It appears that the spherical bearings used on the TTR's are female. How do they handle running a bolt through the tapered hole? I was thinking I would use male rod ends and threaded tube for the tie rods. I have not seen it being done this way.

Hi Brain! It's been a while since I've seen you posting here. Nice to have you back. Or, if you've been here and I just missed you... well, nice to hear from you.

Thanks! I visit the board occassionally when I have something going on with the car. I drive the car when the weather is nice. No, I obviously did not sell it. I couldn't get anything for it. The bidding on ebay stalled out at $2550. Right now I'm glad I did not sell it. I have some non 916 flares in the rafters and plan on making a big scoop to stick over the Targa bar. Also, I plan to cut off the targa bar and make another roll hoop. I also have a 1999 Ford Ranger 2.5. I plan to use this crank to build a stroker motor. Hoping for 260+ hp. I plan to take the boost up to about 20 psi from the 14 I'm running now. Also, I'll probably run a Centerforce Dual Friction clutch. I slip my Escort clutch right not when the boost comes on in 4th or 5th.

My latest project is a 1975 Volvo wagon 4x4 powered by a '97 Camaro V6. I might post an OT story about it here in a few days.
