Yeah it was great to see some other club members at the track this weekend. Sorry I couldn't stop and talk, we had some problems to sort out during testing and for qualifying. Sat was a great day for us, unfortunately since HSR cancelled the Carolina race and we blew a motor at Barber, we didn't have enough points to take the championship. Although we did win every race we entered this year.
HSR allows any car built to the period rules to run. Although many of the cars are a liberal interpretation. Most of the cars are not period race cars. There are many historically significant cars. HSR also allows many cars that have just been retired from professional race series as well. Hence the Audi R8 and late model 997 Cup cars. In our run group there was everything from the Black Can AM car to GT40s to mid 80s BMW M1s, and several RSRs and 914s. The class we run in is for slick tired cars that meet the IMSA rules from the mid 70s to the late 80s. The RX7 is running a peripheral port 13b. The car is built to 1979 IMSA GTU rules. I have worked on many of those cars pictured above. Many of the 914s are very nice cars. Some of them are junk. One of those cars pictured above has such bad rust that it requires the cage to hold it together. It is very fast, but not a nice car. Most of the 2.0 cars are making 230+hp and a usual season cost close to 100K. The 2.0 Vintage class is very competetive, but has no payout other than the championship title. Most of the front runners are very well funded, usually from their own pockets. They have to use stock 914-6 brakes, 901 gear box, stock type suspension in the stock location, and a built 2.0 engine. An engine usually cost close to 30K. The Audi driver was not very good, he was half throttling the car around the track. He was running mid pack all by himself. Several less capable cars were smokin' him. The Blue windshieldless 914 and the yellow/red car were in the lead for the championship. The 151 car is maintained by KMW motorsports as is the car driven by Tim Lewis. All in all it was a good weekend. I took a bunch of pitures but don't want to reduce their size. |
