Hi,
Question from someone new to 914's. I have a 1977 914 FI 2.0L. Having looked at the various internet resources things do not add up. The attached photo shows the original color of the car, the photo makes the car look more orange that what it does in life and normal lighting conditions. Everyone who has seen it says it is red. I read the stamp as 98, but by the paint code chart it should be met blue or something like that. Any one got an idea what I have going on here? Attached thumbnail(s) ![]() |

I believe Guards Red has always been the same blend.
I have owned a 1987 Carrera in Guards Red an 1987 944 Turbo in Guards Red and a 1999 Boxster in Guards Red All of the touch up paints are interchangable, with no real difference when used on another of the Guards Red cars. Actually it is a dead match for VW color called Tornado Red. Owned a Golf in that color also. Yes it has a lot of orange in it in direct sunlight. See shot of my Boxster chasing a nice yellow '74 Carrera at Buttonwillow. Attached image(s) ![]() |
