Because by design, the chassis is not close enough for you to hit your head on. If it is close enough, something is wrong with the design. (Or you're outside the target demographic for the car--like me with my big head and long torso.) Roll-cage metal, on the other hand, is inside the chassis and closer to you. Odds are usually significantly higher that some of it will be in the way of your body when an accident throws you around in the cabin--even with a seatbelt on! It's not so much that it is "more deadly", as "more likely to be hit". --DD |
