I'm thinking if your donor is a '75 or '76 the NHSA crash test requirements changed. Thats why the big bumpers for those years. They may has added some beef to the trunk lid so that it wouln't crumple as easy.

But I really don't know for sure, just a guess. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/confused24.gif)
