my reverse lights work, but i have to hold the shift lever hard into reverse to get them to light up. when i let go of the lever, the lights go out. i like the shifter position where it is, so is there any in/out adjustment available back at the switch?

There's no adjustment other than being sure its screwed into its location on the transmission. The switch does have an operating pushrod that does wear with time and needs to be replaced. I would put a new one in before anything else and see if that doesn't solve your problem.
