I was riding around today in my non porsche daily drive and for the first time actually listened to the newer Porsches on the road. The 997 Carrera S Cab sounds pretty nice under mild throttle. Same goes for the 996 Carrera 4. Both of these cars sounded like sports cars. Neither of the cars I rode next to today was overly heavy on the throttle, but still sounded nice as the drivers rowed through the gears. The 987 Boxster was another story. This driver didn't like an old diesel VW next to him, so he floored the car and hit a couple gears and higher rpms. What a wimpy sounding car! from the sounds, I couldn't tell the Boxster from and Audi or Mercedes. Really lame sound!

Anyone else notice this? Is Porsche still affraid the mid engined car will outsell the 911?
